OST 3 contains music played primarily in the last third of the series(the Akio and Apocalypse Arcs) with a couple Missing Links[/reallybadpun]. Yet another really solid OST. Part of the golden triangle of light(ie, the first three soundtracks), this OST is literally filled with wonderful music, though it lacks the amazing storytelling ability of the previous two(mainly because it has the duel themes broken up all over the OST - a mistake in my mind), it regardless delivers some of the series most classic tracks.
If you're having trouble downloading by just clicking on the links, try this. Right click over the link, then click "Save As", and you should be able to save it to you computer. Unless you have a Mac, in which case you can't right click, and you should get a PC.
Enjoy!
1. Poison
This is a remix of Tsumi no Kaijitsu from OST 2. It's the music played when Anshii and Akio have their little incest interludes, only this version has added moaning and groaning :D Kinky.
2. Watashi Kuusou Seimeitai
Mikage's duel theme. At the end of the Black Rose Arc, Mikage finally faces off against Utena to this wonderful piece of music. I love all the duel themes, but I find that a lot of them sound very similar sometimes, and only a few stand apart. This is one of them.
3. Morning Lyrical
Chimy, up beat music. I can't remember actual instances where this is played, but I seem to remember Nanami being around a lot. Sort of goofy, campus music.
4. Victory
....okay. I cannot remember where this is from. I'm not even sure it's actually played in the series. It sounds familiar though(but I dunno if that's cause Utena music is very thematic and easy to recognize or not). Maybe I'm getting old. I'm listening to this soundtrack and being like "What? What is this?" I remember OSTs 1 & 2 being easier than this. This is very Touga music.
5. Evergreen Memory
As the title implies, flashback music. This is played when Miki is remembering the sunlit garden, as well as during other assorted Seitokai memories. Soft, synthesizer music, quite pretty.
6. Nova
Softer, synth version of the Seitokai theme. This music is a little more omnious, as by this point in the series, the series has gotten a little bit darker(if that were possible).
7. Virtual Star Hasseigaku (Banyuu Inryoku)
God bless Banyuu Inryoku. That's all I can say. I'm not entirely sure who or what they are, but they've done about five or six remixes of Utena songs, spanning most of the osts, and honestly, even though I love Utena music beyond any other anime or movie I've seen, they manage to make all these tracks even better than the originals. This is the duel version of Virtual Star Hassekgaku, which then becomes the ending theme of the series(though that's the original verion). If you would like to listen to other versions of this song, go here.
8. Pessimism
A soft, melancholy track, played often when a character is talking about their feelings or when they're thinking about recent events(events which are, inevitably, depressing, because if Utena has any message for it's viewers, it's that no one gets out of adolescence without their scars).
9. Possession
Creepy Akio music. My, but he does have a lot of that. I believe this is played the first time we learn that Akio is sleeping with his sister. Or that Anshii is sleeping with her brother. It's not entirely clear who is taking advantage of who in this situation, though it certainly isn't a loving relationship on either side of teh equation.
10. Bluebeard
Oh god. I KNOW this music. I do. I know it. It's....goddamnit. It's 'surprise' music. It's played when a shocking discovery is made, and when someone is back stabbing or hurting someone else. Oh god I know it. I think...It's played right after...OH OH OH It's played after Saionji gets taken by Akio to the Ends of the World! And he comes back and slaps Anshii. ...wait. That's not surprising at all.
11. Heizoku Uchuu ni Fumetsu no Koutei [Recommended]
The duel theme from Utena's second duel with Miki. This song sticks out with the really fun way they use sound effects in the chorus. Really nice duel theme. Probably one of the best on the CD, and given that this CD has a lot of really good duel songs, that's saying a lot.
12. Tenderness
Soft synth piano and flute music, usually played when one of the characters is realizing that it's actually not all that bad. It's played once or twice during the late night talks with Utena and Anshii in their bedroom in the tower.
13. Campas Dandy
Upbeat Akio sleaze music. This is played in the scene where Wakaba goes on a "date" with Akio, and tells Utena that she can't come.
14. Temptation
Very generic Utena music. So much so I really can't even place it in a scene. I know it's played often in the later third of the show. It has a guitar and drums in it.
15. Tenshi Androgynous
The duel song from Utena's duel with Ruka. I don't have much to say about this song, as I don't much like it. It's a very "generic"(as generic as these songs can be) duel song.
16. Suspicion
Freaky surprise music, with bongo drums and piano. Played in the scene where Ruka attempts to rape Juri - it begins when he drops the locket from his hand to show her that he grabbed it(and I suppose coped a feel while he was at it, considering where she keeps the thing).
17. Watashi Banbatsu Hyaku Fushigi [Recommended]
Juri's second duel theme. Absolutely. Wonderful. Seriously? Juri gets the best duel songs. I'm thinking she was someone's favorite upstairs, because her duels and duel songs always really stand out and make their statement brash and bold. Another hit out of the park for her, really.
18. Aphrodite Scat
Another version of Shi no Aphrodite. This one is with a woman singing very hauntingly throughout the track.
19. Ambition
I can't place it, but it sounds like Keiko/Aiko/Yuuko music to me. It's violins and a very ambitious triangle. Again, if you recognize any of these tracks that I don't, please email me. Utena's soundtrack spans eight CDs(with some track repeats) and is very difficult to catalog in its entirety.
20. Alien Girl
The music played for A-ko and B-ko when they return from Planet Kashira to resume their Kage Shoujo activities. Basically a remix of the original Kage Shoujo theme.
21. Tennen Douhou Kyuden Enkinhou no Sho
Nanami's second duel song. Not as good as her first duel song, but still a good solid piece. Ahh, I love Nanami. Those who have seen this duel know how unbelievably sad the end of it is.
22. Akio Car
Teeeeeeh sleeeeaaze. Akio porn music. This is the music played whenever Akio is going to fuck going to take someone to see the Ends of the World. And he does the shirtless hood...flip...thing. Akio hurts my brain, man.
23. Picaresque
Actual porn music. I honestly don't remember this being played anywhere in the series.
24. Guui Guuwa Guuest
Touga's second duel theme. I have to be honest here, I don't really like this theme, and I don't really like this duel. Utena has always been an extremely surreal series, but when it got to Utena cutting cars with her sword...well. Even I, the great "Well, symbollically, this means that" girl, turns and says "Yeah...I dunno >>".
25. Orpheus
Probably my favorite version of the Seitokai theme. This one is played on the final ascention in the elevator, in Episode 38, when all the Duellists speak their part in the speech and place their roses in the watering can. Heavy used of the organ and synth, but so very haunting and weighted.
26. Shine
This one's been a long time in coming. This track is actually played waaaaay back in episode one, when Utena opens the gate to the Duelling Arena for the first time. Only the first few seconds of it are played, when the water shimmers and gate emerges - the track continues passed the "shimmery" music into a more flute based piece. It's interesting, and I wish they'd included that bit in the actual series.
27. Tainai TokeiToshi Oruroi
The first duel song of the final duel of Revolution. This is definately the more jazzed up and "enlivening" of the two. This track is played in episode 38 when Utena and Akio get down to dueling after a long discussion. This is another one of those duel tracks that really stands out, and for good reason - it's played in the second to last episode. For those of you looking for the second duel theme of this duel, 'Missing Link' it is, mysteriously, placed on ost4.
28. Rose and Release [Recommended]
The final piece of music from Utena. This is 'Rinbu Revolution', performed by Okui Masami, only without any words. In place of the words, she 'la's along to the music. I'm sure that, to those who haven't heard this piece, this sounds pretty ridiculous, but I cannot even begin to describe how gorgeous and fitting this piece is for the show's finale.
29. Eyecatch A
One of the later serier Eyecatches.
30. Gertsen no Kubi
This is a duel song from the Sega Saturn game, which I have never played, so as to who this song is related, I don't know.
31. Sakasama Boku to Boku no Heya
Another Sega Saturn duel song.
32. Eyecatch B
The second late series eyecatch, the one played on the "back from commercials" bit.
33. Virtual Star Hasseigaku [TV Size]
The short version of the final ending theme - this is the version played with the series. Good stuff, though I think the full version is even better. If you would like to listen to other versions of this song, go here.
